Step one of Finn's overall strategy is to definitely make sure he's got the right person first and foremost. He doesn't have an especially detailed strategy, and he's half not even sure what he's going to realistically accomplish with this, but by this point he really feels the need to commit so like. yolo. ]
[ John is never really happy. Chyler knows, because she knows the feeling. She hasn't been happy for a long time. Not consistently. It comes in fits and starts, odd moments, arguments with Tom or their talks late at night, and now when John tells her about Atlantis. He lights up then, too, comes to life in a way she thinks he might have in the past, before life was too much to smile through.
But he's never really happy. Which is why Chyler notices when he suddenly is. It's a lightness she's not used to seeing from him, a calm that comes with smiles that reach his eyes.
She also notices the way he tracks that pilot of his whenever they're in the same room, ever since both of them showed up one day looking like they'd been beaten half to hell.
Chyler sets John's morning coffee on his desk, her other arm full of folders. ]
[ She doesn't go to John at the Perimeter Guard, doesn't seek him out in RR-1's offices. It takes her a while to work herself up to it, up to telling him...
Telling him everything, or as close to everything as she can force herself to get.
She goes to his rooms in communal housing, after dark, after spending an hour pacing on the rooftop trying to talk herself into it and out of it over and over again.
Chyler knocks. Definitively. Forcefully.
And about one second later, she turns and heads for the stairs. ]
He hadn't tried much at the rave, just enough to keep Finn company, but the whole time they threw themselves around in the crowd, the whole time Poe found himself warmed and comforted by every bump and brush with a stranger, the whole time he felt that tingle of euphoria, he was thinking about John.
So here he is at John's door, the keys to a hotel room in his hand, a cab waiting outside, practically vibrating with the desire to get his boyfriend (his boyfriend) in a private space where they won't risk interruption or awkwardness from either roommate. He's still got that mild glow in his head, his pupils very slightly dilated, and for the first time in a long time (for the first time since his Academy days), he's eager for more of that feeling. He's eager to share it.
Poe knocks. For probably the third time in less than a minute. ]
[ If a holoprojector hits the ground during a training exercise, does it get picked back up? I mean, not by Finn. He didn't really notice that it happened. Presumably because RR-1 is the Hella Unit and they don't train for kicks.
Once he does realize it's not in his pocket later on, he basically spins on the spot to start retracing his steps. Which takes a bit of time, since this is the one possession from the Quarantine that he'd be legitimately upset to lose.
But luckily John is here to pick up on those picking-it-up vibes, at least in the sense of "what's this weird shit that doesn't belong in the training facilities," probably.
If John gets to fiddling with it he'll find that it projects the still image-- nothing high-quality, flickering with blue scanlines-- of a young man (early twenties, maybe), light-skinned with a long face, from the shoulders up. His hair is close-cropped. His face is expressionless. The energy here is about on-par with any impersonal personnel or ID photo, of which John has undoubtedly seen his share.
The readout scrolling beneath it simply reads FN-2003.
If he doesn't get to fiddling with it, please don't throw it like a small frisbee. Or I mean, I guess that would also make the picture pop up, so. idk I don't wanna assume John's deduction process, I just wanted to lay out some basic deets before Finn kicks the door down in the next tag or whatever. ]
[Once Tony figures out where the coordinates are actually pointing to, the temptation to grab the armor and jet over is high. However, the likelihood that there's going to be a fair amount of drinking is also high, and Tony's learned the lesson about mixing alcohol and armor.
Even without it, Tony's mysterious new friend is not hard to find. There's only so many people drinking on top of the wall at any given time. He hopes.]
Owner of a lonely heart, table for two? [He calls it before he starts picking his way over. Who knows how drunk the guy is already and Tony is not actually looking to startle him right off the wall.
He does invite himself to settle right down next to him, though.]
Nice place. I mean, the decor leaves a little something to be desired.
[ The only reason why this is text is because Jim can't trust himself not to fall apart completely mid-sentence. ]
I need your help. Sorry, I know you've got a lot on your plate right now, but I really need you to take over the aerial unit for a little while. Could you do that for me?
[ Particularly since it means having to work with Poe, but he wouldn't be asking if he had any other choice. ]
[ It takes Poe a long time to write this message, even if it's short. He's still not sure John wants anything to do with him, even if the man helped save his life. John is... John. That's the kind of thing he does for people.
But right now it doesn't matter what Poe feels or what he's afraid of. What matters is, well... ]
[ It's a few days since they've both been cleared for active duty. The gash on Poe's head is healing up nicely with a little magical assistance, and his various other aches and bruises have already faded.
Doesn't make him feel less shaky as he goes to John's office and knocks on the open door. ]
[ Poe hopes, when he comes back to the apartment, that John will be alone. He'll explain himself to everyone if he has to, and he's going to make his apologies to Finn and Rey, but...
What he wants to say to John, he wants to say alone.
And luck is with him. When he pushes open the door to their place, there's John in the kitchen, the living room empty. Given that those are the only two spaces the four of them really use? Well. Small favors. ]
